Earlier today, our pastor was doing the last of the “5 pillars of that shape our faith today, Sola Christus, Christ Alone.” Truly, a powerful series. Towards the beginning, he said that Buddha’s last words were, in essence, keep striving. WHAT??? Keep striving! For what? Then the pastor said, “You know what Jesus Christ last words were? It is finished!”
The empty cross means it is finished. Do you mean if I tell an itty bitty lie to murdering many people because I don’t like this group’s certain stance on an issue God will forgive me & you truly repent to God, seek Him, & let the Holy Spirit guide you then I can go to be with Jesus where He is alive forevermore in heaven? Yes, according to John 3:13-18.
Don’t know of the top of your head what it says? “No one has ascended into heaven except He who descended from heaven, the Son of man. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up, that who believes in Him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him. Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.”
OK, which would you rather? “Keep striving,” as Buddah was on his death bed, or “It is finished!” said by Jesus Christ as He was to end His physical life on this earth? Obviously I’m in the corner of Jesus Christ which He doesn’t tell us to “Keep striving.” Rather, the Empty cross, the Empty tomb, & 500 witnesses to His post-resurrection body speaks more to me than Buddah saying keep striving. Just sayin’.
Don’t believe me still? Take a listen:
