Low Down Dirty Shepherds…

At church service, we learned that an ordinary run of the mill shepherd, by & large, were the worse job you could aspire to. A little research of my own, confirms this as true. So why would Jesus Christ affiliate Himself with low down dirty shepherds?

In fact, throughout the Bible, God uses people with checkered pasts like Abraham, Moses, Gideon, etc… After years of studying the Holy Scripture, to associate Himself with sinners actually fits His personality. Right? Think about it. In fact, I have John 3:17 to back me up, for it says, “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him” (ESV).

Think of His personality, once again. It was common that Jesus would go into the houses of the hated tax collectors, prostitutes, & the like. So, it would indeed make sense that Jesus Christ would identify Himself as the Chief Shephard (1 Peter 5:4). For it says in Peter 2:21, “For to this you have been called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in His steps” (ESV).
