For to this, you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. 1 Peter 2:21 ESV
• This is a call to all Christians whoever should read this verse. Let us break it apart. “For to this you have been called“-this doesn’t mean just pastors, their wives, and children; it doesn’t mean just elders, deacons and their wives and children; it just doesn’t mean missionaries, their wives and children; it doesn’t mean the people who have a passion for Christ; no, it means every Christian throughout the world. ” because Christ also suffered for you,“-this is where this can get a bit tricky for believer that had just come into the faith by Jesus Christ or someone who is stagnant in their faith. Questions arise about how could God ‘suffer for you’ all across time. However, Hebrew 11:6 says ‘without faith, it is impossible to please God.’ “leaving you an example,“-this is where many (if not most American Christians) have a tough time since American Christians have a more easy time to pray for safety rather than boldness. “ so that you may follow in His steps.“-this is a tough one for even seasoned Christians that have walked in the faith for a number of years, but we must continue to walk in the faith shown by works (James 2:14-26).
