Alone? Jesus Christ is calling you to Stand By Me. “Stand by me” was a rhythmic song put out in 1961 by Ben E. King that instantly became popular since the people in the United States and eventually all over the world could identify with the song. Although I haven’t looked into the story of Ben E. King, I am going to want to say that he had some connection with being left alone while personal tragedy hit him, and thus was the inspiration for “Stand by me.” A few generations have gone by, and it can be heard at your local parties expressing faithfulness to a friend, friends, and more intimate setting like marriages. As already said, it is known worldwide since it connects to each and every one of us with the lyrics. The song goes like this:
When the night has come, and the land is dark,
And the moon, is the only light you see,
No, I won’t be afraid, no I won’t be afraid,
As long as you stand, stand by me.
Oh, darling, darling, stand by me, oh stand by me,
Stand by me, stand by me,
If the sky we look upon should happen to stumble and fall,
All the mountains should crumble to the sea.
I won’t cry, I won’t cry,
No, I won’t shed a tear just as long as you stand by me.
And darling, darling, stand by me, oh oh stand by me,
Oh stand now, stand by me, stand by me,
Darling, Darling, stand by me, oh stand by me, stand now, stand by me, stand by me.
Whenever you’re in trouble, won’t you stand by me, stand now, oh stand by me.
This song only last 3 minutes. However, it was made popular with just about everyone because deep down inside we are afraid to go through tough times alone. Yet the song, “Stand by me“has an almost everlasting sense to this physical life. And while it is good to express the emotions of faithfulness, it seems to me that this song has some spiritual overtones.
It was early in my life when I started to make deeper connections from songs to what really matters in this life. Let me show some Biblical examples of Jesus Christ’s “Stand By Me” attitude:
1 Peter 2:21 says:
For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you may walk In His steps. (ESV)
Or Luke 9:23-26:
And He said to them all, “If anyone who would come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever would lose his life for My sake will save it. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of man will be ashamed when he comes into His glory and the glory of the Father and His holy angels. (ESV)
If His children forsake My law and do not walk according to My rules, if they violate My statutes and do not keep My commandments, then I will punish their transgression with a rod and their iniquity with stripes, but I will not remove him from My steadfast love or will be false to my faithfulness. I will not violate My covenant or alter the word that went forth from My lips. (ESV)
The Spirit that we received does not make us slaves to fear again; it makes us children of God. With that Spirit, we cry out, ” Father.” And the Spirit Himself joins with our spirits to say that we are God’s children. If we are God’s children, we will receive blessings from God together with Christ. But we must suffer as Christ suffered so that we will have glory as Christ has glory. (NCV)
I could go on and on with this, but hopefully, prayerfully you get the picture. In order for you to enjoy eternal life with the heavenly Father, you must believe first, then comes all the rest. There are no other ways. Choose eternal life or choose eternal death. This life here, right now, is a pretrial life for how we will spend True Eternal Life.
If by any chance you feel convicted within your soul to not answering the call of Jesus, then it is the Holy Spirit urging you to come to Jesus Christ. Simply talked to Jesus Christ, ask Him to forgive you for all your sins, and help you to live the rest of your mortal life here on earth for God the Father. Once you do that, He will not leave you or forsake you (even though you may feel like it at times). Please answer the call, giving the opportunity for Jesus to “Stand By Me…” Then you can join me in a song that praises Jesus for His outstanding faithfulness: Jesus Is Calling: “Stand By Me…”
