The Birth of True Life Christianity…
At the age of 7, I had both my physical birthday & my spiritual one, too (different). It was that moment I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord andSavior of my life, things have been different for me.
In 9th grade, I remember being outside of my school on a crisp, autumn day with a beautiful array of colors on the leaves of the trees when all of a sudden I “felt” a wierd sensation in my spirit. I knew it was Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit that put a calling on my life. So, in my differentness, I decided to accept that calling; however, my calling wasn’t to youth as I originally thought. It was to a “different” group of people, the whole array of people who suffer with disabilities and their caregivers.
Just before I was to graduate from high school, the night of May 19, 1989, was a memorable one for me since once I fell asleep I had a horrible dream (nightmare). My nightmare that I couldn’t wake up from. Finally, I woke up about 11am. Now, you may say that is typical for an 18 y.o. I would agree. But, you forget, I was different. My usual time I got up is 7-8 a.m. Different. But once I woke up at such a late hour, I just thought, “hmm… that was interesting.” I cataloged it in my mind.
The morning of June 28, 1989, was supposed to be like any other morning in late June. Hazy, hot, and humid. It was only 6 o’clock in the morning. Meanwhile, I just started working over 80 hours a week with a full time job at night. Hazy, hot, and humid, I was traveling down the highway at 70-75 mph. Sleep deprived because I was a superman like most 18 year old males, I veered off the highway straight into a granite ledge.
My car didn’t have air conditioning, I must have had both of my windows rolled down (this was an era that only expensive cars had power windows) because it was hot and humid even around 6 a.m. Think of the sound! Yeah, I get you. Not to pretty or pleasant. My car headed directly into a granite ledge due to over-correction because I was sleeping. What happened next could be classified as miraculous (different).
That day, I should have died; instead, I ended up into a month long coma. Remember that “dream” I had, now it’s a reality where in the coma I experienced everything I did in the “dream.” Each time I can remember in the coma, it was like I was hoovering over my body. Some friends visited me, and at other times, I could feel myself urinating. GROSS! Having no control over your body movements. Oh, did I tell you that my whole right side was paralyzed? Surprisingly and shockingly, it was.
Shortly after I woke up out of the coma, I was sent to a rehabilitation hospital where the head psychologist look over me and did some tests within the first week. I had a traumatic brain injury where most of the front left portion was missing. The assessment went something like this… the doctor indicated that we have no room for a patient like this, because all he’s going to do is maintain his health (at best) which means that I would be in no condition to write you this blog. However, God had other plans. 😆
About 2-3 weeks into my stay I was finally sick of this “dream” I was having, so when it reached 7-8 in the evening, I went into my room. All was quiet, and I began praying to my heavenly Father. Mind full of frustration, I said something like this-“God, I’ve had enough of this “dream.” Please get me out of it by morning time! However, if it’s real then I’ll serve you to the best of my ability. I hope that it isn’t real! In Jesus name, Amen.”
Well, by the looks of it, it was real. Remember I said God was calling me into a field that needs represention of Him? The field of human services is lacking severely with a good representation of Jesus Christ.
Now, I feel that Christ has a special calling on my True Life. I always been told that I have a way with written words (especially after my car accident) because my oral speaking leaves something to desired because I suffer from expressive aphasia. I sought advice from some trusted family and friends, and out of it came http://www.TrueLifeChristianity.com.
